Jens Stoltenberg appointed as Secretary General of NATO

Jens Stoltenberg was appointed as the Secretary General of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This was announced by the North Atlantic Council on 28th March. Stoltenberg will take charges of Secretary General of NATO on 1 October 2014. He will replace the incumbent Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former Prime Minister of Denmark.

Jens was born in Oslo, Norway in 1959 and did his Masters in Economics from Oslo University. Jens Stoltenberg was appointed as Prime Minister of Norway in 2000. At present, he is a UN Special Envoy on Climate Change. He is involved in international assignments which included chairing the United Nations High-level Panel on System-wide Coherence and the High-level Advisory Group.
