National Policy on Children

The Government is currently drafting a National Policy for Children to revise the earlier National Policy of 1974. The policy is being revised to address the new challenges that have emerged with the advent of globalization and development, which impact children’s lives, health, security and development. The proposed policy recognises that a multisectoral and multidimensional approach is necessary to secure the rights of children.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is adopting a participatory and consultative process in drafting the proposed Policy. For this, five regional consultations and a national consultation were held to seek comments from various stakeholders including State Governments, concerned Ministries/Departments, civil society organizations and experts. The proposed Policy was also displayed on the website of the Ministry of Women and Child Development for seeking comments from general public. The policy has been also circulated to State Governments and concerned Ministries/Departments for comments.
