The 26th meeting of the Northern Zonal Council shall be held in Chandigarh on 13th
July 2012 under the Chairmanship of Union Home Minister, Shri P.
Chidambaram. Chief Ministers of Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu
& Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Lt. Governor of Delhi and
Administrator of Chandigarh, the concerned Ministers of the States,
Chief Secretaries and senior officers are expected to attend the
meeting. Sardar Prakash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab is the
current Vice-Chairperson of the Northern Zonal Council.
The Agenda includes important issues
like sharing of water & power, pollution in inter-state rivers,
development in NCR area etc.
The Zonal Councils are assisted by a Standing
Committee of Chief Secretaries. The Chairmanship of the Standing
Committees also rotates synchronizing with that of the Zonal Council.The
Inter-State Council Secretariat functions as the Secretariat of all the
Zonal councils.
